Meet Michelle

More Than a Provider.

An Educator and Partner in Your Care.

Welcome to NeuroWell Integrative Mental Health.

I'm Michele Devine Walden, MSN, APRN, PMHNP-BC, a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with more than 30 years of nursing experience and a passion for helping adults achieve lasting emotional wellness.

I became a psychiatric nurse practitioner because I wanted to help people feel better, but throughout my career I discovered something equally important:

I love to teach.

Since 2011, I have served as a clinical preceptor for nurse practitioner students at the University of Kentucky. Teaching future nurse practitioners has reinforced something I also see every day with my patients. Understanding the "why" behind something can be incredibly empowering.

I bring that same philosophy into every patient relationship.

I don't want you simply to leave my office knowing what medication to take or when your next appointment is.

I want you to understand yourself better.

I want you to understand how sleep can affect anxiety and mood. How chronic stress can influence the way your body feels. How nutrition, movement, relationships, daily habits, and physical health can affect emotional well-being. And how seemingly small changes, practiced consistently, can sometimes make a meaningful difference in how you feel.

Whole Mind. Whole Body. Whole You.

My approach
to medication:

Psychiatric medications can be valuable and, for some conditions, essential.

But medication is only one part of the conversation.

When medication is appropriate, I want you to understand what we're treating, why I'm recommending a particular option, what benefits we hope to see, what potential side effects to watch for, and what alternatives may be available.

Treatment decisions are made collaboratively.

You should understand your treatment plan, not simply follow it.

My treatment philosophy:

Psychiatry doesn't have to begin and end with a prescription.

My approach is to evaluate biological, psychological, lifestyle, environmental, and nervous-system factors that may contribute to symptoms. Medication remains an available evidence-based treatment when clinically indicated, but it isn't automatically the only tool considered.
